For the location and price, I guess it’s okay, but I personally wouldn’t stay here again. It’s closer to Stanley Park, so if you just need somewhere to sleep and don’t care much about the room, it may suit you. I expected the place to look and feel clean, even though it was fairly cheap, and cleanliness matters to me. Instead, it felt outdated, the hallways on each floor were dark, and the whole place didn’t really feel like a hotel. There was also a certain smell, which I think may be because it’s beside food places. I hope they try to get rid of it. They could make the place look better and improve the cleanliness. Even if guests mostly just sleep in their rooms, that’s a big factor in whether people come back, and I think they earn enough to renovate.

The hotel is basic and a little dated, but it’s clean and the staff are friendly, especially the helpful people at the front door. The location is ideal for visitors. I’ve recommended it to my European guests three times now, and it’s worked out well so far. I’d recommend it again.

We got a huge room with comfy beds and a kitchenette, which saved us a lot of money. It was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel’s a little older, but it’s in a safe area right by the beach and Stanley Park, with everything else close at hand. For the price, we found it relatively affordable. The hostel up the road cost the same, but we’d have had less privacy. Thanks, English Bay Hotel!

One of the two front desk attendants was a real jerk to our family, with a terrible attitude. Everyone else we met at the hotel was pleasant, but that one person spoiled the stay for us. I think he treated us rudely because we booked through Booking dot com. We wouldn’t have heard of this hotel without Booking dot com in the first place.

The bed and bathroom were clean, but the rest of our stay was disappointing, even though the price was low for Vancouver. We knew from reviews to expect a basic, dated place, and our expectations were already pretty low. The hotel still fell short. We saw several mice run across the kitchenette floor one evening. We aren’t afraid of mice, but it didn’t make us feel the hotel was clean or the kitchen safe to use, given what seemed like a vermin problem. The kitchenette floor was sticky, the lift smelled awful, and the staff weren’t welcoming. The air conditioning pipe was taped into an open bedroom window, so it couldn’t be shut. The street was noisy at night and we slept badly. The window was single glazed anyway, so I think the noise would still have been a problem if it could close. If you’re on a budget near English Bay, the Sylvia Hotel costs only a little more and is much cleaner, quieter, and friendlier.
