Kingston Hotel

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! MOUSE INFESTED!!! I stayed one night because I was running out of time before an event and foolishly hadn't booked at the Grandview. I won't make that mistake again. I chose a private bathroom and was quoted $149 online and at the desk. Soon after taking my things upstairs, a mouse ran right beside my feet while I was on the phone with the restaurant next door. The front desk didn't seem surprised and moved me to another room just above the first. It had a mouse too, of course. There's no mini fridge in the room, and the bill somehow jumped from $149 to $237 even though I hadn't agreed to the steep parking fees. I'm not sure taxes explain an extra $90. In the morning, the front desk attendant was on a personal call while I checked out and said the deposit would be released automatically. It turned out they hadn't charged the room, or perhaps the whole amount was pre-authorized and wasn't charged to my card until two weeks later. I'm extremely frustrated with these people.

The rooms were quiet, small but cute, and just right for our weekend. The location and price were amazing, and the shared bathrooms on each floor were no problem at all. I never had to wait. The men have a shared bathroom, and the women have their own. The front desk was helpful and nice. I'd come back!

Our room worked well for us, and the shared bathroom down the hall was clean and never crowded. We couldn't get a room with a private bath, so that was the option we took. The hotel is older, but the downtown location is fantastic. Tea and coffee are free in the morning, though there's nothing else, not even fresh milk for tea. The front desk staff were helpful, but less friendly than we're used to.

The Kingston Hotel has a wonderfully old-fashioned feel, like a place from an old Hollywood movie where you use the phone in the hallway. The staff were awesome, the hotel was extremely clean, and the coffee in the lounge was really good. I booked a single room with a shared bathroom. It was comfortable and clean, with a bed, sink and mirror, sitting chair, side table, desk and chair. Towels, a robe, slippers and a generous toiletries basket were provided, though there was no toothpaste. I also liked the little hotel stationery and envelope, a sweet vintage touch. There was no TV or coffee maker. I was on the third floor, where the shower was out of service during my weekend. Other showers and stalls on the second floor were easy to reach by stairs, and I never had to wait to use the shared bathroom. I didn't get a chance to try the sauna. Gastown, Granville Island, downtown venues and shops are all walkable, and there's a discount at the restaurant next door. I'd absolutely stay here again.
