Diva was great when we ate there in person, with good food and service. Room service was another story. It arrived in a paper bag with wooden utensils, like takeout. The eggs benny had slid around with the potatoes, the eggs were more cooked than I’d asked for, and the juice came in a plastic cup. No tray or proper dishes, and eating out of the box was disgusting and far from what I expected. We also had to call the front after three nights to get the room serviced, though they did a nice job once they came. There was no water, either. The feather bed, blankets, and pillows were much too soft and hot, and I tossed and turned on two nights. There was no hot tub despite the advertising, and the steam room and pool setup felt awkward. The location was awesome, but after my four-night stay I’d probably try another hotel next time.

The rooms are still very well appointed, the soundproofing is great, and the furniture is in good shape. This feels like a holdover from the hotel’s time in a Hong Kong luxury hotel empire, with its Mandarin Oriental and Jardine family past. Front desk staff said a full rebrand is due soon, including a Renaissance club lounge. Until then, there’s still a Hong Kong and southern Chinese feel, from the lions at the entrance to the detailed lobby woodwork. The bathroom looks like it’s from the 80s, but aside from the Marriott, residence inn, and JW suites, it’s one of the few Vancouver hotels that gives guests a bathroom. Service is polished. I like that Diva at the Met offers made-to-order sit-down breakfast, even though the breakfast benefit only covers continental options and hot breakfast costs an extra $7. The meals they do serve are excellent.

The pool and fitness facilities were excellent, and I especially liked having saunas and steam rooms in the changing areas. Parking was a bit tight, though there were plenty of underground spaces, and the elevators made getting up to the lobby easy. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout. My room was spacious, spotless, and had everything I needed. The location is central, feels very safe, and puts attractions, shops, and restaurants within an easy walk. I had a wonderful stay at the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver and would happily return.

The room was beautiful and clean, and we enjoyed our stay at this wonderful hotel. The breakfast voucher was a little misleading: with two adults and our 2-year-old, the server said it covered one adult meal and one kids’ meal. That was fine, though we’d thought it included two adults and two kids. We’d called ahead about early check-in and were told our room was ready, but 15 minutes later at arrival they said they’d mixed us up with another guest and it would be another 2-3 hours. Once we got into the suite 2.5 hours later, we didn’t check for the extra bedding for our third, paid adult. At 11 pm, when it was bedtime, we had to call down and wait for blankets and a pillow.

The hotel is across from pacific center, with shops, food, and concerts all an easy walk away. The library is a great addition and a nice quiet spot, and the business area is good too. The gym is nice to have, but its equipment seriously needs updating. The pool is small but pleasant, while the sauna and steam room are great. Rooms are comfortable, though the shower area is very confined. The restaurant food and prices were good, but they got my order wrong, so service was just okay, 3/5. The welcome at the entrance was 3/5.
