Samesun Vancouver - Hostel

The staff were so friendly and courteous that I’d come back for them, and the price was excellent. The shared common area was large and pleasant, with a big communal kitchen and free breakfast. Keep your belongings locked up, since the room is shared with six other people. My luck was bad with one bunkmate who was sick, coughing and sneezing, and constantly getting up and down and in and out. I spent most of the night in the common area. The issue wasn’t just the noise outside: nightlife stayed active until 3-4am, and it got really loud, so light sleepers should beware. Still, it’s a great location for getting around, with Stanley Park, Granville Island, and the convention center all within walking distance. I’d definitely return, hopefully without another sick roommate.

Joining the Lynn Cannon tour on a whim that Saturday turned into one of the highlights of my trip. It was a full-day adventure, and I was surprised that public transit was the only thing I had to pay for, since most tour operators charge extra. I had such a fun time and met some lovely travelers along the way. I really enjoyed my stay at Samesun Vancouver. The room was clean and modern, with a warm, minimal look. The staff were wonderful and helped sort out my booking dates, which I’d entered incorrectly. I also appreciated the free breakfast.

The continental breakfast was great, with bagels, hard-boiled eggs, fruit and vegetables, plus tea and coffee. The kitchen was clean, organized, and clearly labeled, and the lounge was comfortable. My daughter and I stayed at Samesun on Granville over Easter weekend for a getaway. The service was exceptional, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The beds, pillows, and bedding were really comfortable. Each bunk had its own light and plug for electronics, plus a little shelf and a curtain for privacy. There were excellent lockable storage bins under the bunks, but you need to bring your own locks.

The only part I didn't like was the room. It was fine otherwise, but faced Granville Street and got really loud at night, especially on the weekend. Earplugs solved it, though. The rest of the hostel was great: everything was really clean, including the washrooms, which staff checked every 2-3 hours. The kitchen was large, nice, and clean, and I enjoyed using it. The location was good, too.
