O Canada House

The house has loads of character and sits in a great spot for exploring downtown, with the main shopping areas and amenities easy to reach on foot. With some investment it could be amazing, but the lack of upkeep and attention to detail made our stay very poor. We enjoyed Vancouver, but the accommodation disappointed us as soon as we walked in. I nearly checked out immediately and paid for somewhere else, but after being so tired, we stayed for the three nights. It was a close call. The smell was overwhelming and musty, enough to make me feel nauseated. I suspect a scented candle device in the lounge was involved, and the hot weather with the windows shut made the room hard to breathe in. Leaving the windows open during our stay was the only way for the smell to clear from the room. The bathroom was nice, but when I opened its sash window, it fell apart, leaving a pane of glass hanging above me. I told the housekeeper. The carpets in the bedroom and public areas were badly worn and needed replacing, a simple fix. Breakfast was offered in a very limited time window and wasn't worth waiting for. The choices were poor, and it arrived without care. Paul's is a four-minute walk away and has a fantastic breakfast.

This is a heritage house dating from 1909, with a classical interior and a comfortable, welcoming feel. The rooms were clean and tidy, the beds very comfortable, and the powder room was spacious and convenient. We could use part of the kitchen ourselves, and the shared pantry had coffee, tea, and other supplies. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The location was handy for everything: we walked to flyoverCanada and a couple of restaurants we wanted to try. We had a really nice stay, and I'd definitely recommend it :)

The hospitality was excellent, and having breakfast both mornings was great. There was also a pantry with snacks, drinks, coffee, and tea available whenever you wanted. Our room was clean and had the amenities you'd expect at a regular hotel. It's an older house, but it feels very inviting and charming. We found the downtown location convenient and walkable. This cozy B&B gave us a great stay, and I'd highly recommend it if you're after a different experience from a chain hotel.

A great spot in downtown Vancouver, less than a twenty-minute walk from the waterfront in three directions. Imagine staying in the house where O Canada was written! Looks like a wonderful staycation if you can afford it. I'd feel like a visiting dignitary.
