Days Inn by Wyndham Vernon

There’s a nice continental breakfast every morning, and the rooms were clean and quiet enough for a good night’s sleep. The staff were incredibly helpful with whatever we needed. It’s also a handy spot in Vernon, with the mall across the street and plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The front desk staff were kind, and the rooms look modern after recent renovations. The location is convenient, but the cleanliness was far below an acceptable level. I’m usually pretty easygoing, yet I’m counting down until I can shower. The shower was grimy and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, and there was a pubic hair on the toilet. The linoleum was thick with grime, the sheets smelled unpleasant and had dirty hand marks where they’d been folded, and the second towel I picked up still had handprints on it. The mirror and microwave had greasy marks before the second cleaning, though those were wiped down. They changed the sheets and the first towels seemed okay. I asked for another room, but the hotel was full, so someone came back to clean. Even after that, the room still felt unsanitary. I’d hoped at least unscented detergent had been used on the sheets.

The room was so dark, and at 10 pm there was loud work going on in the pool area. We were moved from a king to a queen, and the pool wasn’t working. There’s no hot tub. The phone in the room was broken, there was spit in the sink and poo on the toilet seat, plus dirt in the drawers and dust on the lamps. I booked six weeks ahead and was absolutely disappointed with the cleanliness. My husband wanted to leave at 9 pm, but we’d paid through 11 am Sunday and it was too dark to start driving. The pictures on the webpage need updating. I don’t believe the positive comments, they’re full of crap. We’ll never come back.

We only stayed one night, arriving late, and the receptionist welcomed us warmly. The room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast had enough choice for a quick start to the day. A decent stopover.
