The worst part was having no hot water during all five days of my stay. I complained twice, nobody fixed it, and there was no compensation, so I had cold showers. The dorm room itself was old and cramped, with a rock-hard bed and a sagging chair. The flat sheet wouldn't stay over the mattress. They only provided two thin, small bath towels. Are fitted sheets really that expensive?

We found a bed bug, and reception didn't seem very alarmed when we told him. It makes me wonder how often this happens. I would have given the place three stars for being affordable and spacious, though it wasn't very clean. Beware of bed bugs.

For the price, Hotel Laurier does a decent job, but the accommodations are at student dorm level. It's clean and quiet, although some areas are stained and worn, and the decor is plain cinder block. The mattresses are four inches of vinyl-covered foam. You share a washroom with one other room, though nobody was in that room during my stay. Wi-Fi was decent by hotel standards, but there's no ethernet. A shared kitchen and lounge have a fridge and stove. Maid service is up to you, and the students at the registration desk are friendly. Keep in mind this is summer-semester accommodation; the rest of the year, these are university dorms.

This isn't a normal hotel, so bear that in mind. When I visited KW a while ago, I booked a week for about what two nights in a regular hotel would have cost at the time. If you just need somewhere to sleep, it's worth a look. I'd give it four stars for value, two in general, and less than one compared with a real hotel.

The front desk employee was really helpful, and once we got settled, everything was fine. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the room was clean. Getting there was stressful, though, because the parking directions weren't clear. The entrance is on Regina Street, not King, and it wasn't obvious whether to use the unsigned lot or park out front by the no-parking signs while registering.
