The Mad Musher - Hostel

We came in as a group from the snowmobile trails. The location was convenient, there was plenty of room for us, and the service was friendly and quick. The soup of the day was good, but the rest of the food was less impressive. I couldn’t tell if the poutine potatoes were very dry or undercooked, and paying an extra $5 for it was disappointing. The macaroni and cheese was pretty plain.

The waitress was great, and everything we ordered was fantastic. The fresh garden salad was good, the lemonade tasted genuine, and the cheeseburger had a real beef patty cooked perfectly with a nice char. It was refreshing to see a restaurant get everything right.

We were camping nearby and drove through Algonquin P.P. on the way home. At about 1 pm on Friday October 3rd, we stopped at The Mad Musher restaurant because I wanted a hot dog to go. I told the waitress I wanted to eat outside and enjoy the weather, since we still had a long drive. She was nice, but said she needed to ask the cook whether he’d make one, because hot dogs were only on the kids menu. She tried to seat us while we waited, but nobody told us whether the cook had agreed. We waited 35 minutes, even though the place was only about half full. My wife asked twice and was told it was coming. She got up to leave just as it arrived, so we asked for the bill and took the food away. A hot dog shouldn’t take over 30 minutes. We won’t stop at The Mad Musher again. The place across the street is clean, well lit, and has great service. We should’ve gone there.

We stopped here while traveling through and had good service and great food. The house-made burgers were full of flavor, and the “House Fries” clearly tasted homemade, not frozen. The gluten-free buns were really good too. A great place to stop for a meal.
