Courtyard Winnipeg Airport

The room was spacious, clean, and well appointed, with a comfortable bed that made for a good night's sleep. The hotel is exceptionally close to the airport, just a quick drive or even a walk, which is very convenient for travelers.

For my business trip, I had meetings at the hotel. The meeting rooms were large and got plenty of natural light, and the food service was good, with fresh tasting dishes. I used some of the lobby workspace, which was well appointed and private enough for a virtual meeting without disturbing anyone. I didn’t visit the bar and restaurant in the lobby. The room was typical of a Courtyard, with the same decor and furnishings as other new properties. The bed was very comfortable, and it was relatively quiet despite being so close to the airport. The location is the biggest benefit: it’s easy to walk to and from the terminal, and the prices are very reasonable compared with hotels near airports in other cities. I’d definitely stay again.

I had to check out a day early after late-night construction dust and debris made for a sleepless night. Despite telling the front desk I wouldn’t need parking, I was charged for it. I was also charged for another night even though I checked out at 11am. They had the discretion and chose to charge for the extra day and parking too. C’mon. Service at the desk was poor. The in-room remote didn’t work, though they did send someone to replace it. The ice machine was out, but I was told it was working. I also had to tell construction workers to stop pounding baseboards late at night outside my door, even though I’d been told their quiet time was 4:30 p.m.

This is the worst Marriott I’ve had to deal with. If you’re a business or government traveller, or want flexibility with your booking, stay away. The last time I tried to stay, I cancelled through the Bonvoy app within the cancellation policy, but they still charged me $1400. Apparently they’d set their own undisclosed cancellation policy because of the Grey Cup, without telling anyone. If this is how they treat Titanium members, good luck, Marriott. I’d recommend looking at Hilton or Hyatt instead.
