Hotel Selton

I stayed at Selton Hotel in Kinshasa in February 2024. Lunch and the breakfast buffet were excellent, and the service was good. Some staff didn’t speak English, but they were still helpful. The hotel was clean and comfortable, though there were no washcloths in the room, so I had to buy a loofah. Outside noise could get loud because they were building an addition to the hotel. I’d recommend the meals.

The reception service was respectable, and the view was nice. The surroundings were clean, and the rooms were luxurious and clean too. I came with friends on a business trip and we were treated like kings. What a place to stay. I’ll come back as soon as I get the chance.

When I visited in 2017, the hotel was brand new, clean, and had friendly staff. The breakfast buffet wasn’t very extensive, and the surrounding area wasn’t especially pleasant. You could also hear the neighbors through the walls since they weren’t soundproof. The room rate can be negotiated.

We needed the hotel to legalize an invitation for us as tourists, but they refused. As a result, we couldn’t get our visas in time for the trip. We gave more than 24 hours’ notice of cancellation, but the hotel still kept all the booking money. They never respond to correspondence, and the staff are rude and seem completely unconcerned about customers. This was the worst hotel I’ve come across, with incompetent staff. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It feels like a rip-off.
