The room was warm, actually too warm at night, but opening the windows meant noise all night long. The beds were placed at opposite sides of the room. There was no room cleaning or fresh towels, and although breakfast wasn’t available on the weekend, we still paid the full price.

We had a good evening and enjoyed the dishes. The restaurant is inside the hotel Gasthof Mühle, and while we had booked, I don’t think a reservation was necessary. It may be the best restaurant in town, a nice choice for dinner with your partner or friends. Recommended.

Getting here by train from Basel station takes just 10 minutes. We stayed as a group of 17, and everything went smoothly, with friendly staff and a great bar downstairs. I also liked the offer of a free drink voucher for guests who chose not to have their towels and bedding changed.

The bar downstairs is what really makes this hotel special. Markus runs it and makes the place amazing. The restaurant service was caring and very professional too, thanks to Dominik. The “Design” rooms are really great, though the older ones feel a bit too old fashioned. If you want that experience with those people serving you, just go!

The mountain setting is wonderful, with cycling roads tucked away in the hills. The hotel staff are nice, and dinner there is well worth trying. The cuisine and food are great, better than anywhere else in Basel, in my view. The chef’s menu is perfect.
