Gade Lodge

We were lucky to experience Schwindi Lodge during a peaceful spell in early April. It was so quiet that we practically had the place to ourselves, and we found it beautiful and relaxing. Ursula laid out a lovely Swiss breakfast for us in the morning, all smiles. The next morning Nadia did the same and checked that everything was okay. Our room was just right, with a balcony and windows that opened onto a stunning view. I can imagine the lodge has a different energy during high season, and that could be fun too. Still, this quiet visit was a very special one, and the most memorable and delightful of our stays in Switzerland.

The breakfast room has lovely views of the Säntis and Wildhuuser Schafberg, and the buffet included several cheeses, braided bread, and other breads. Schwendi Lodge is in a quiet spot near the Klanghaus Klangwelt Toggenburg (Sound World Toggenburg), and shows how welcoming a place can feel with few staff and a strong focus on guests. I think I misread the confirmation email and went looking for my reserved budget room. I found the right room number at the unmanned reception desk.

For a weekend with three generations of family, this lodge was just right. The rooms were clean and bright, breakfast buffet was good, and the service was very friendly. We also liked the cozy spot by the fireplace. Perfect for us.

It’s a wonderfully quiet place to relax, with breathtaking views and a great location for all sorts of outdoor activities. Everything is simple, clean, and well looked after, without extra frills. Breakfast uses fresh, delicious local products, and dinner next door at the Gade restaurant is just as good. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I’ll be back!
