Winter walks begin right outside, and you can ski back to the hotel at the end of the day. A ski bus also runs regularly to make getting to the slopes easy. The village is small, with only two restaurants, so for more choice in the evening you may need to drive or take the bus to a nearby village. The restaurant is a highlight, with a 14-point Gault & Millau rating and a generous breakfast buffet. There’s also a modern spa, especially enjoyable for its two outdoor hot tubs and sunset views. Rooms are very clean, and a southwest-facing one has a spectacular view. It’s a quiet, high-quality place to get away. The staff are warm and helpful, and really do try to find solutions. It also seems well suited to families: there were lots of children, and a dedicated room with board games and toys.

Such a lovely hotel. The staff were fantastic and did their best to make our requests work, even arranging a birthday celebration at the last minute. Thank you!

We had our first ski trip as a family with the kids, and it ended up being one of our best family holidays. Our apartment was in the nearby building owned by the hotel. It was clean, and the furniture was impressively good quality. The staff were very friendly and gave us plenty of restaurant suggestions for the times we wanted to eat out. The hotel restaurant was excellent too, especially the burger. We decided during the stay that we'd return next year.

The town is wonderfully quiet and feels high above everything. The apartment was beautiful, with stunning views and all the amenities we needed, though it was very expensive. A few things were disappointing: the baby cot we'd requested wasn't there, I had to haul luggage up several stairs, and after unloading I had to move the car to a different parking spot. We came with three children. One has coeliac disease, and one adult has a milk intolerance. We were told “everything” could be arranged, but in practice there was only one suitable dish for the child. Breakfast was very limited, especially with our dietary needs. Most staff were friendly and seemed to be trying, but the hospitality often didn't feel very genuine. When coffee was accidentally spilled in the kids room, we had to ask for cleaning supplies ourselves. The cleaning lady kindly cleaned it up, but another staff member oddly asked if there was a “problem with a cup” and then quickly left. We thought they might be offering a replacement coffee, but they weren't. Children under six can't use the hot tubs because of the temperature and the risks. We were told this at least five times, even though we'd understood the first time. There are very few options for children in or around the hotel, so it didn't feel particularly child friendly.

The mountain location and views are stunning, and the landscaping at the top adds to that. But parking isn't ideal, and the rooms are small. My family booked two rooms, and both felt cramped. I thought “boutique” meant fewer rooms at a standard size, but my husband and I got a room with bunk beds while my mother had a queen bed. The interiors weren't anything special. The restaurant is pricey and has limited choices. The staff were nice, though not especially helpful. It wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed at, but it didn't meet my expectations for a Marriot, and I was disappointed. Updated: I read the staff's response and am revising my review to reflect it. Before leaving, I raised my concerns at the front desk. The woman there said, “there will be no changes to your reservation,” very matter-of-factly, without offering options. We chose to stay elsewhere that night. We paid $600 for a hotel stay we didn't complete and also booked a hotel in the valley. Only when we called Marriott to cancel did the young woman try to contact us again.
