Hotel Rotes Kreuz

I only visited the restaurant. It has a relaxed lounge feel with a classy touch. We didn't need a reservation, though plenty of tables were already booked. Service was polite and pretty quick, and I enjoyed the food. It may cost a little more, but the quality and location make it worth it. I'd happily return regularly.

The breakfast was awful, with no sausage or cheese and burnt scrambled eggs. The bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in. Its old, worn mattress had no cushioning left, and the springs pressed into my whole body. The bedding was poor quality too. Prices have shot up, but with such a room, no bathroom, and such poor service, I felt I paid too much for the stay. A nightmare.

Our room had a lovely view of the lake and was bright, with windows on two sides. It wasn't huge, but it suited one night on our cycling trip. The restaurant has a nice lakeside feel, though it shuts a bit early. There was a covered garage for storing bikes.

For the price, it's okay, but a hotel for a little more or a B&B for the same price can be much better. The church about 40 metres away rings every 15 minutes around the clock, and there's some traffic noise at night, though that isn't too bad. Rooms at the back smell of kitchen ventilation, so you can't open the windows, even at night.
