We’ve stayed at plenty of five-star hotels around the world, and General Manager Silvana Schlösser and her staff made this vacation even better. We’re coming back for 15 nights in 2027, and The Tschuggen deserves six stars in our book. The spa is among the best I’ve seen. It feels like stepping into an elegant spaceship, with a peaceful atmosphere, wellness and body treatments, and a steam room that’s wonderfully relaxing. The warm family pool has a separate lap lane and an outdoor area for taking in the Alpine calm. Housekeeping is top notch. Kristina handled our morning cleaning and evening turn-down beautifully, and made sure our balcony was tidy and the comfortable loungers were back in place. I even got to care for the lovely succulent in our room, which I named "Jamaica". The bar beside reception and the Grand Dining Room is huge but cozy, and Sven and Master Mixologist Louis run it expertly. Louis is up there with the world’s best bartenders, including the celebrated Japanese ones, with his smooth speed and deep knowledge of spirits. Each evening, a talented piano and guitar duo played with a vocalist above the shiny dance floor, where we made some sweet mambo memories. There’s a classic dinner menu at the bar too, handy for someone like me who sometimes prefers to dine alone, like Stallone. One first course that stood out was prosciutto rolled up like Cleopatra on a stick, steamed over a bowl of delicious barley soup. Robert Jakob Guse, the Food & Beverage Manager, is among the most capable and intelligent F&B managers I’ve met in more than 55 years in hospitality. Like Julius Caesar, he works alongside his servers and sets a fine example of empathy and kindness to guests. The Basement is our favorite restaurant at the hotel. Jana leads it with real warmth and competence, and takes guest satisfaction seriously. Jessica, mentored by Jana, was the best server we had during our 15-day stay. Her kindness felt heartfelt, and her bright eyes and warm smile lit up the dining room. Don Francesco, the Rome-born Executive Chef at The Basement, makes fresh al dente pasta by hand. His tagliatelle bolognese was the best I’ve ever had, even better than at Osteria da Fortunata in his hometown.

There’s a lot to like here: a ski room, ski hire and shop, business room, and a fantastic spa. The bathroom was amazing, and the bedroom had good equipment and was very clean, though a little dated. That’s a small issue next to everything else. The team gave us amazing service. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the centre, but there’s a free shuttle wherever you need to go, and their own funicular takes you straight to the slopes. This will be our hotel next time we’re in Arosa.

The restaurant dinners were a five-star foodie treat, with lots of excellent choices that changed from night to night. Aaron Ganz, the restaurant’s new manager, took great care of us over all four days, welcoming us at every meal and going above and beyond. The wait staff under him were efficient, cheerful, and friendly. Candles on the tables added lovely atmosphere. I wish they’d use old candles in the lobby too. It feels oversized and dark at night, and could use lighter colours or new decor. We chose Arosa instead of St. Moritz and were glad we did. Our corner junior suite looked out over the mountains. With the Stay 4/Pay 3 deal and half board, the price was the same as one night in a lake-view junior Suite at Badrutt’s Palace in St Mortiz, so it felt like great value. The hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and made a real effort to make our stay special. We loved the hotel’s own cable car up the mountain. The free shuttle to downtown and the train station was useful too. Andras drove us a couple of times and did an excellent job. My suggestions are about the lobby: there’s no bathroom unless you go down one level, and there’s no wood-burning fireplace. In an alpine resort, a real fire would add atmosphere, since the gas logs just don’t have the same effect.

This is a review of the spa treatment only, not the hotel itself. My room was clean and the massage bed was comfortable, but the 60-minute sports massage was unprofessional and didn’t feel like a sports massage at all. The therapist, S. C., did most of it with one hand. At times I felt he was occupied with his other hand. I seriously question whether he had the relevant training. Hotel management said they would follow up internally.

The kids club was a hit with our three-year-old, with plenty of toys and activities and friendly staff. We also loved the mountain hot-water spa and swimming pool, and the private cable car to the Weisshorn bahn station. Our south-facing suite had amazing panoramic views, and parking was free and easy. A beautiful high-end hotel in Arosa.
