Hotel Schloss Wartenstein

The bed was comfortable and clean, and the self-serve breakfast was fine, including options for gluten intolerance. But the room had very poor lighting, and the small bathroom was dark. The TV channel selection was poor, and our balcony room looked out on an unappealing view. It was spacious, but sadly decorated. The restaurant closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, which makes sense in the quiet fall season. Still, from 5:00pm the whole place is locked down, leaving guests access only to their own rooms. The lounge, billiard room, and grounds can’t be used, and the front door requires a key. Local bus service is the shuttle, and it only runs hourly.

I saw their TikTok account comment on a post asking why women were playing football in men’s clothes, then share AI-generated pictures of women in very short crop tops and shorts. Frankly, that’s disgusting.

The main course portion was smaller than I expected, but the food was tasty and the waiters were friendly. The view over the whole village and the mountains is excellent. I enjoyed having dinner here.

The rooms have newly renovated interiors, and breakfast is lovely. Those views from the room are hard to beat. I’d have given it 5 stars if the modern bathroom offered any privacy, but it really doesn’t.
