Hotel Alexander

The included Basel Card was a real plus, with free public transport and discounts around the city. This three-star hotel is also well placed for getting to attractions, and the rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. Breakfast was varied and delicious, a lovely way to start the day.

The room was clean, breakfast was decent, and there’s an elevator. But the photos seemed misleadingly embellished, and there was no air conditioning. At 8 am, cleaning staff shouted, knocked, and tried to enter before checkout. Staff also stared awkwardly during breakfast. Rain tapping on the window facade made sleep impossible; we risked our lives putting a towel outside the window to deal with it. The parking arrangements were strange too. Poor quality overall.

For Basel, the price was very reasonable, and the staff and location were both great. I had a great stay and would definitely recommend it.

We had a standard double room with a small but perfectly workable bathroom, and the window looked onto an enclosed courtyard full of buildings. The restaurant attached to the hotel was nice, with live music, and the chef showed us the proper way to eat some Ukranian dishes. There’s good street car access to various sites, and reception staff arrived quickly and were friendly and helpful. Parking was tight, though very close by.
