Becozy Self Check-in Pop-up Hotel Basel

I was there for one night, March 7 to March 8, and getting into the room was a frustrating experience. Check-in was set for 16:00, already quite late. The information form said they’d let me know if the room was ready earlier, but I wasn’t told. At 15:10 I asked through WhatsApp, and the robot said it wasn’t ready, though I could pay 40 CHF to check in early. Charging that for just 50 minutes seemed unreasonable. It seemed like the room might already have been ready, but they wouldn’t give me access without the extra payment. At 16:00 I was meant to receive the access codes by email, but nothing came. The WhatsApp robot sent a link with location details, the check-in form, and access information. That section said access would appear on check-in day at 4 pm only if the form was complete and payment settled. I’d already paid on Wednesday, and my online form had been completed and accepted. The robot kept telling me to check the form or payment, and wasn’t helpful. Eventually I asked urgently for a real person. Rose joined and sent the email with the codes. Everything on my end was in order, so I don’t understand why the email never arrived in the first place. I finally got into the room at 16:20, and it still wasn’t properly cleaned. They’d told me at 15:10 the room wasn’t ready, which was why they couldn’t send the codes, yet it was still not fully clean when I arrived. It was very frustrating, and made it feel as though the room may have been ready earlier but they wanted me to pay extra to get in sooner. I also only received the Basel Card after 16:00, when most of the day was gone and there was little chance to use it. Since I’d booked for March 7, it would have made more sense to get it earlier, around noon, instead of at 17:41 in the evening. The location was the one positive: Aldi, Lidl, and other supermarkets are close, and there’s a tram stop right across the street that goes straight to the train station. There’s no reception at the property, either. Communication is through WhatsApp with a robot, and you don’t have direct contact with staff.
