Exclusive Central Apartment

This was an affordable, good B&B in a quiet residential area west of Basel's city centre. It was a 5-10 minute walk to the centre, and the trip from the airport took about 30 minutes by public transport. From EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg, take bus 50 to Brausebad, then tram 1 to Zoo Bachletten and walk into Leimenstraße. Proof of reservation gives you free public transport. Loredana, the owner, lives 800 meters away and was waiting outside the B&B when we arrived. She took time to show us the kitchen, television, Wi-Fi, which had good reception, and the door locks. We got BaselCards for free transport and museum discounts. She also had brochures for museums and events on a living-room table. It felt much more personal than arriving to an AirBnB key code by email and an unattended folder. The apartment was a regular but large family home on the first floor (2F), with a living room, kitchen, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. We had a double bedroom and private bathroom, with no sofa, minibar, or television in the room. It was just a bedroom, and we used the living room for anything else. The other rooms shared the second bathroom. The double bed came with a single-person duvet and felt a little too hard for our taste, though that's personal. We liked sleeping with the windows open in this quiet neighborhood. For cooking, the kitchen was fully equipped, which could be useful since Basel restaurants can be expensive. For breakfast, Loredana put juice, milk, eggs, butter, and yoghurt in the fridge, and left tea, croissants, fruit, cereal, honey, and jam for the next morning. The Nespresso coffee was excellent. During our September 2019 stay, the other two rooms were available, so with other guests you'd need to plan breakfast times. We booked directly by email for 3 nights, without an internet-booking agency, to avoid its fees. Compared with Basel hotels, the B&B was affordable, though Swiss hotel prices are still above the European average. In September 2019, B&B Bouanonotte offered a quiet, well-equipped apartment just a 5-10 minute walk from Basel's Altstadt.
