Radisson Blu Hotel, Basel

Update: I came back for 3 nights in January, which turned into 4 because my flight was cancelled. This time the room and service were much better. On my first visit, I had booked an individual room and saw an upgrade to a standard room in the app. At check-in I was told it had been changed back because the hotel was fully booked. It seemed odd to offer an upgrade to a Radisson Rewards VIP member and then take it back. Worse, room 250 smelled strongly of sewage as soon as I walked in. It was strange that it had been given to a guest without the drain being cleaned. I was promised a room change within 45 minutes, but thankfully it happened in just 5. The app called the next room standard, but the photo showed a small individual room with a bed and only 35 cms of space around it. It was just one night, so I could cope. Breakfast was excellent, and the dinner food was good, but service was odd. The younger waiter said he'd served me a draft beer, though he hadn't, and didn't know VIP members got 15% off food, thinking it was 10%. Please train the staff. I hope my next booking in January goes better and I don't get another room with that terrible sewage smell.

The food and drinks at the restaurant were excellent, and the room was nice, with a small but functional bathroom. We held an event at this Blu Radisson, and the staff did an amazing job accommodating all our needs. Everyone, from the front desk to the restaurant, was friendly and super helpful. Every staff member I met was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming, and the breakfast was excellent. My room was spotless and very comfortable, with an exceptional bed. The amenities were great, and the spa area has a special touch, especially the beautifully designed swimming pool. I had a truly wonderful stay and will definitely come back.

The bathroom door was the main downside for us. It was a sliding glass door, which wasn't the best choice even for a married couple, and we could hear everything from the bathroom in the room. We had a beautiful room with a great bed and amenities, though. The hotel's location is great, just minutes from the train station and city center. We visited during the Christmas market period and were delighted by the location.
