Chateau Salavaux

The restaurant really stood out: we ate outside beside the stone tower facade and had a very fresh risotto with a lovely bright green sauce. The menu changes often, though any of the dishes seems like a safe choice. We were welcomed so warmly by everyone working there. We were biking around the region and booked one night because the renovated chateau looked so appealing on Google. It was just as lovely in person, full of charm and authenticity. The wine growing area, with its villas and small farms, feels a little off the beaten track, which was exactly what we wanted.

The dishes were carefully made and beautifully presented, and the young owners received and served us very nicely when we had Sunday lunch in mid March 2025. There are only three main courses to choose from, including a fish dish that isn't from nearby Lake Murten and a vegetarian option. The wine list includes local bottles, wines from elsewhere in Switzerland, and choices from both the old and new world, but prices are rather high, including by the glass. We also take off a star when a restaurant charges for tap water even though you've ordered wine. Expect to spend over 100 CHF per person for a fairly simple lunch with wine. It wasn't particularly good value overall.

Every corner of the old Château feels like it was put together with care and love. It's a lovely little place with tremendous hospitality in an underappreciated part of Switzerland. You could stop in the garden for a quick drink, or stay overnight for wine and dinner, or another option. Thanks for making a place like this. We'll be back.

We really felt at home thanks to Neïla, Flavio, and their team. They were so friendly and went out of their way to give us excellent service. My wife and I spent a long weekend at this exceptional chateau, surrounded by a stunning region with three beautiful lakes. The setting alone makes the stay worthwhile, and we also had a couple of exquisite dinners with refined, delicious food from Chef Philippe Bouteille. One highlight was riding our bikes through the vineyards, an amazing experience. We highly recommend this peaceful place for a proper chance to relax and take a well-deserved break. We'll be back, of course.
