Bern Backpackers Hotel Glocke

For a budget trip to Bern, this was definitely my best option, even though it is pricey by international standards. It's centrally located with good public transport, and having a kitchen meant I could cook for myself. They also provide free pasta, rice, and cereal. My private double was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed, though it would've been rather small for two. The bathrooms were clean as well. I'd happily come back to Bern and stay here again.

Right in the Old Town beside the Zytglogge clock tower, this hostel is just a 5-6 minute walk from Bern train station, and tram and bus stops right outside make it easy to get around. The location is hard to beat. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and kept our luggage when we arrived early. We had a clean, comfortable family room with its own bathroom, plenty of space for us, and cozy beds. The hourly clock chimes didn't disturb our sleep. The communal kitchen was well equipped, and visitors get free public transport. It exceeded our expectations, highly recommended!

The location worked really well, right by Bern's Old Town and close to tram and bus stops. Everyone was welcoming, and the place was clean and tidy. The only problem for me was the check-in and check-out times. Otherwise, I had a great stay.

Street life was lively, as you could see from my room, but it got very quiet overnight. I also found it good value. The hostel is close to the main train station and the university. The university has a gorgeous view, definitely worth seeing, and coffee at the bistro in the heritage building costs half as much as at the larger cafe on the lawn. Lots of sites and restaurants are nearby too. It's a great location, and the hostel itself is clean, comfortable, well equipped, and well run.
