Up on the top floor, the fireplace and bookcase come with a lovely view over the valley. The garden is cosy too, and there's space to eat outdoors. Downstairs, the kitchen is comfortable, with a dining room that has a fireplace for winter, plus two bathrooms and a sauna. It’s a distinctive three-storey house right in the centre of a lovely village typical of Malcantone. There are beautiful walks nearby, and Lugano is a 20-minute drive away. Aranno also has an efficient bus service down to the plains. A good fit for families or anyone after a quiet break in this wild part of Ticino.

There’s plenty of green and a real sense of calm around this traditional, charming house in central Aranno. The little village sits in the Malcantone region, and the place makes a great base for trekking and hikes.

You can come here to look around like it’s a museum, but I wouldn’t live here in this condition. I can’t recommend it as a place to stay.
