Bretterhotel

The breakfast buffet was included and had fresh meat, eggs, and fruit, plus a huge coffee machine and plenty of places to sit. There are a few spaces out front for check-in and unloading luggage, with a 15-minute limit, and a large free parking lot down the street. The room was spacious, a decent size, and brand new, with a fancy bidet toilet. For Switzerland, the price felt reasonable for what we got. The building has a modern rustic feel, with the lobby on the far right, a gift shop, convenience store, and seating areas. We enjoyed our stay in this peaceful little town.

Our 4-year-old loved the room with a slide at The Bretterhotel near Brienz. It’s a fun, unusual idea and made for a memorable night or two in a beautiful region. The hotel itself is simple and basic, and it does cost a bit more, but I’d recommend it to families for the fun of it.

For $400 a night, the small queen room with kids’ bunk felt very overpriced. There wasn’t even AC, and no pool, gym, or spa either. The shower had only cheap soap, no conditioner, and no child lock despite the water getting very hot. There were lots of flies in the indoor cafe. Breakfast was included and good, but still very basic for that price. The Google Maps details are wrong too: parking is paid, and the place isn’t near Geneva.

The hotel is wonderful for children and the whole family, but the extra charges really spoiled it for us. A glass of water costs 3 CHF, and everything seems to come with another fee and be so expensive. Tap water should be free, especially for families with small kids. Some staff were rude and unhelpful, and need better training.
