Hotel Stadthaus

The town is charming and full of history, and Burgdorf Castle’s inner courtyard is only 300 meters away, a lovely spot to watch the sunset. The stay itself was one of the best we’ve had, with thoughtful little touches like complimentary drinks in the fridge. Everything is arranged to a very high standard, and breakfast is excellent, served in a restaurant that once had a Michelin star. There’s no air conditioning, but that’s understandable in a historic building where getting permits is extremely difficult. They deserve 5 stars, highly recommended!

Chef Christian Bolliger makes delicious traditional dishes as well as more inventive ones, and his apfelküchli, Swiss apple fritters, are the best I’ve ever had. I also love the breakfast buffet, and a relaxed evening meal on the front terrace or in the cozy front bar. The refined little hotel is in the former town hall, on a corner of Burgdorf’s cobbled old town below the medieval castle. It’s a great base for exploring the Emmental, with rooms looking out over the old town and surrounding countryside.

The helpful staff and breakfast were highlights. This older building is very well maintained and sits right in Burgdorf’s old town, within walking distance of most attractions. The old castle takes a decent climb to reach. Rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the Covid safety procedures were well maintained.

In the historic Stadthaus in Burgdorf’s old town, this fine dining restaurant serves freshly prepared food from different cuisines. Service was friendly and quick, and the attentive staff spoke English. There are several elegant function rooms, and on Sundays they offer a generous brunch buffet.
