Chateau De Mathod

The pool was a lovely way to cool off, tucked among flowers and old stone walls. We visited during a heat wave, so the room got a bit warm, but the owners did their best to bring us fans and it cooled enough overnight for us to sleep. The chateau is thoughtfully designed, with modern rooms fitted inside the walls without harming the original stone or the site's historic character. Our beds were very comfortable, and the roomy game room made it easy to keep playing board games into the evening. Our young daughter was delighted to visit the chickens in the big gardens, and we all enjoyed freshly picked raspberries and eggs at breakfast. The owners were friendly and very helpful. We also had the tapas, charcuterie and salmon platters on our first and last evenings, all delicious and really good quality. The hotel looked beautiful in the photos, but in person it was incredible. This is a dreamy, Studio Ghibli-like region, and the hotel made a perfect base for it.
