We loved the quiet atmosphere, the cowbells, and the fog around this beautiful property. The room was a very comfortable twin, with soft beds, thoughtful little touches, and a perfect bathroom. The food was homey and delicious, and service in the on-site restaurant was very attentive. The couple who run the hotel and their staff were all so kind. I’ll absolutely come back for the hospitality. We visited in late September 2024, still off-season, with very mild weather. The lift made it fairly easy to get there even with our luggage, though we walked about 0.3 mile from the lift on paved and gravel roads. You can also take a taxi from town. We only took one when leaving, so we could catch an early morning train.

Martin and Sonia were great hosts. We stayed just a couple of nights and enjoyed the views, but the gondola cost more than we expected. We hadn’t checked in advance, so that was on us. The ticket only covers one trip up and one down, so bring snacks or a snack run gets expensive. Some nights there’s nowhere else on the mountain serving food. Sonia kindly sorted something out for us that night, or we’d have been pretty hungry.

Sonia and Martin, who run the hotel, were excellent hosts and gave us lots of information about the area. Sonia cooked from a varied evening menu. We really liked the soft, tasty pulled pork burger with fries on the first night, and the pork and veal sausage and frankfurters the next. The white pork and veal sausage was great, and the local Swiss white wine went very well with the food, as did the beer. Malixerhof sits in beautiful mountain scenery at 1600 m above historic Chur. We stayed two nights in mid-May, between the winter and summer seasons. It seems well suited to families, couples, and solo travelers. We enjoyed our stay despite being neither skiers nor hardy mountain hikers. There are lots of paths on both sides of the hotel, and we took a pleasant walk. There was also an interesting mountain pool nearby, surrounded by many kinds of flowers.

The food was delicious and high quality at both dinner and breakfast. It was thoughtfully prepared as well as well made, and the dessert was one of the best I’ve ever had. The hoteliers were gracious and accommodating, and spoke very good English. With the stunning views and charming setting, I recommend this hotel without reservation. One thing to plan for: in the spring and fall off-season, the cable car from Chur runs only on weekends, from 8:30 to 5, and not at all on weekdays. There aren’t any bus routes within walking distance, and a cab from central Chur is very expensive, roughly 100 francs. We were visiting off-season, so plan your arrival and departure around the cable car and don’t expect to make frequent trips into the city. It’s a terrific option if you’re looking to hike, bike, ski, or relax.

The food was really good, with both traditional and modern dishes. Clean place and a really good location. Great experience, we’ll come back. Thanks 🥰🥰🥰🥰
