Au Major Davel

On a cold Sunday in January, I sat on the terrace for coffee and cake and was served something I hadn’t ordered. The garçon seemed lazy and barely interested, and strong frying smells hung over a large area in front of the place. I had to go inside to find someone so I could pay. Definitely one to avoid.

We arrived around noon and were able to check in early. The staff were friendly, and our room was spacious, bright and comfortable, with a great lake view and a comfy bed, all at a fair price. The location is good too, in Cully, a cute town in the middle of the Lavaux wine region. We ate dinner elsewhere, so I can’t comment on the restaurant, but I’d happily stay here again.

We loved coming back to this little village hideaway on Lac Leman. The views stretch across the water towards Montreux and the distant Grand Montana mountains. The crew are charming and look after you well. At the restaurant, we enjoyed good-quality fresh dishes and local fish, with a wide selection of local wines to go with them.

The view is fabulous, and our bedroom was spacious. We had a lovely stay, and most of the staff were nice. Breakfast needs more variety and better quality. The floor in our bedroom and bathroom was dirty when we checked in, so I had to wipe it with wet tissues to keep my feet clean.
