I was on half-board, paying about CHF 147 per night. At dinner I ordered a glass of wine (≈ CHF 6) and asked for a carafe of tap water. The waitress flat-out said no, water had to be purchased. I explained I was a half-board guest, but the manager came over and backed up the policy, saying there were “costs” and that two bottles of water were already in my room. I found it astonishing and disrespectful to refuse a paying guest a basic glass of tap water. By that logic, they could charge for the chairs too. If the business can't afford to offer one glass of water, it should rethink its business plan.

There was no one at reception even though it was supposed to be open from 8-18. The room was full of insects. There'd been a fly since day one, and tonight a pincers walked across my mattress after coming from beyond the bed. I couldn't get in touch with the hotel to ask for a room change. A horrible experience.

The personal, relaxed welcome from hosts Manuela Vieli and chef Thorsten Bode makes this feel like a family-run place. Hotel Bünda is in Davos Dorf, with the Parsenn cable car and cross-country trails just a few minutes away on foot. The mountain setting is peaceful but still central, and the Swiss hospitality makes it feel welcoming to everyone.

We had a very good two-week stay in the Residence. Our room was comfortable, with a bath and shower, and a balcony that gets afternoon sun when it comes out. You can reach the main hotel from outside or through a tunnel when it's wet. Tea bags were replenished every day, but strangely there were no coffee pods for the coffee machine. We were on half board and the food was plentiful and very good. Breakfast was continental, with bacon and scrambled eggs available too, plus a fresh orange juicer. Dinner was a set three-course meal with two choices for each course. The portions were too big for us, so we asked for smaller ones because we couldn't always finish. Appenzeller Weisbeer was a very refreshing beer. Good value for money.

At breakfast we found visibly dirty vegetables for smoothies, and cucumbers being cut while still in their original plastic, clearly unwashed. The waiter confirmed they were served that way on management's instructions. When we raised the hygiene issue with the restaurant owner, he was dismissive and arrogant, showing little regard for guest health and safety. The restaurant service was one of several disappointments during our stay at Hotel Bünda Davos. The half-board dining arrangements were also poorly explained. The menu did not say tap water would cost extra, but at dinner we were charged 16 CHF for two litres. The owner's wife was curt and rude when we questioned it, saying we should not order if we did not want to pay. She ignored our question about the missing price on the menu. The waiter said the water was expensive because it had to be filtered due to old pipes, while the owner's wife misleadingly called it mineral water to justify the high charge. It felt like the restaurant cared more about profiteering than clear communication or guests. These practices hurt both the dining experience and Hotel Bünda Davos's reputation. The stay was a letdown, and I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for good service and transparent hospitality.
