We stayed five nights in the top-floor room called “Viola.” The village is small, with only two or three places to eat and a convenience store, so we were glad to have our car for getting around. There are public transport options nearby, though. Lucerne is about a 30-minute drive and has plenty to do and see. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby. We also took the cable lift at the back of the village for an even better view. There are lots of hiking options too, though we weren’t very interested in hiking. Emmetten sits partway up the mountains, and the bus ride in from Stans was scenic. The balcony had an astonishing lake view with mountains behind it, though the Alps are farther south. At night, we could see plenty of stars because there isn’t much light pollution. The room had basic kitchen appliances, a standing fan that we really needed, and a shared washing machine. The host, a gentleman from the village, offered to meet us the next day, explained the local public transport, and gave us a folder about it. We mentioned that the sunshade was broken, apparently from a recent storm, and he came to fix it the following day. The roof window let in a lot of light even with tape covering most of it, so we blocked the sun with a blanket. We’re from the Netherlands and used to being able to drink tap water, so it was nice that the tap water here was drinkable.

Mr. Brandt deserves five stars for the apartment, its amenities, the view, and the price.

Emmetten was a calm break from the busier cities, and reaching it was easy: we took bus 311 from Stans and walked a few minutes. Even though Lucerne is about an hour away, the ride each day was scenic. We stayed in the “Jasmine” apartment at BellaRosa Apartment, a spacious, cozy place in a postcard-like village. From the balcony we could see part of the lake and valley. Pietro and Monika were kind and helpful, gave clear instructions, and met us to show us how the laundry worked. Self check-in was simple, with the key secured in the postbox. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking, with a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, microwave, oven, stove, fridge, and all kinds of cookware and utensils. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom neat, with a good shower. The basement washer and dryer were free to use on request, which isn’t always the case elsewhere. The WiFi was sometimes a bit weak, the pillows could be firmer, and the garbage instructions were initially unclear, especially about the special taxed bags, which were actually provided. Those small issues didn’t take away from how much we enjoyed the stay. It’s a comfortable, quiet place near Lucerne if you don’t mind the scenic ride. A gem.
