Dinner needs to be booked ahead, since they don’t seat walk-ins and only have room for people with reservations. Breakfast is included. This is an affordable place for budget travelers, with friendly staff and guests who are considerate about sharing spaces. It’s a hostel, so don’t expect hotel-style service. The wooden buildings felt cozy and suited the setting. The location is beautiful, and buses got us pretty much everywhere. A ride costs about 7 CHF each way, so consider a Swiss travel pass if you need cheaper transport.

The toilets are outside and quite a way off, and it can feel a bit scary at night. It’s a nice place for backpackers, though. Not recommended if you can’t manage stairs.

Breakfast had a good balance of whole foods, with vegetarian and vegan choices at the buffet. It’s a lovely, affordable place with great views of Lake Lucerne and helpful staff. The lake is accessible, and the bus system was the easiest way for us to get around. A quiet getaway if you want a break from the busier cities.

The staff were great online and in person. I had to change my dates, and they refunded the night I no longer needed even though the policy said there were no refunds. The location right by the lake is lovely, and my room opened onto it. Go with friends and enjoy the swimming and outdoor BBQ. I can see it making a great base for Lucerne and the Alps for a group in their late teens or early twenties, but I was just passing through on my own. It felt very much like a hostel for a different crowd than European road trippers, with what seemed like lots of American kids. The rooms are basic and the Wi-Fi didn’t reach mine. Shared showers and toilets were fine and clean, and you have to strip your own bed. Parking is up by the entrance, with a very steep path down to the hostel and no vehicle access. Going back up twice for things from the car was quite a workout. Also, UK and EU phone deals don’t cover Switzerland, so I needed an eSIM for my few days there.

We only got to spend one night here, which was our only regret. The views, rooms, and staff all made the place feel like a glimpse of Heaven. Chrisi at the front desk is amazing, and I hope you’re lucky enough to meet her!
