Seehotel Riviera at Lake Lucerne

The gentleman who checked us in, looked after us, and checked us out was friendly, helpful, and had a great sense of humor. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a large bathroom and shower, and unusually good water pressure for our travels. It was also quiet and in just the right location for us. I’m not sure why some other reviewers were unhappy. Breakfast was delicious and very good, though it may not be what Americans are used to. We were in Switzerland, and the food was yummy, so don’t knock it.

My stay at Seehotel Riviera at Lake Lucerne was thoroughly disappointing. The toilets and room weren’t clean, the mattress and pillows were uncomfortable, and the bathroom had no bath linens or towels. The soaps were poor quality, and the owner refused to refill the toilet paper. I could also smell something burnt, and the building looked as if it had been burned at some point. It was hot, but the owner, who was also the manager, was rude and wouldn’t provide fans. Attempts to raise concerns with management were met with arrogance and no understanding. When I arrived, nobody was at reception to help with check-in. The room was stuffy, with no air conditioning or even a fan. Keeping the window open wasn’t a workable option because of noise from the busy road and smoke from other guests. The restaurant was often closed during my stay despite having previously confirmed it would be available. When open, its menu was extremely limited. Poor service, inadequate facilities, and unprofessional management made this a highly unsatisfactory stay. I’d strongly advise against choosing this hotel.

The manager and staff were all very nice and helpful, and the hotel has a lovely view over the lake. The rooms are spacious and clean. The main problem was the lack of airflow unless the window or balcony door was left open, which could let mosquitoes into the room. I hope they renovate the hotel and find a way to improve the air in the rooms.

The staff were friendly and did their best to help, and the rooms were very clean and tidy. Still, the hotel felt average. I didn’t like the carpets in the rooms, and the bus stop right beside the hotel meant traffic and bus noise woke me early each morning. Breakfast was available, but could be better.
