Serviced Apartments – Kirchbühl@home

We love coming back to Kirchbuhl. The apartments are comfortable and clean, and having a kitchen is a real plus. Staff are helpful and friendly. Just be aware that getting there means walking uphill.

The views from the terrace and restaurant are hard to beat, and our spacious junior suite had amazing scenery too. The hotel is lovely, with helpful, friendly staff and a great breakfast. It’s an uphill walk from town, but I highly recommend it.

The food was outstanding, with lovely options every day, and the hotel felt like home. I’ve never seen better views from a hotel, and the rooms were lovely. The staff and owners were always ready to help. On Christmas Eve they arranged a special torch walk, had real candles on the tree, and the owner and staff played music during dinner. It was an amazing stay I’ll remember for a lifetime, and I can’t recommend the hotel enough.

Five months after our September 2025 visit, I still remember La Marmite’s venison tartare and keep trying to make its celeriac remoulade at home. The food was so good we ate at La Marmite three of our four nights, then tried the hotel’s other restaurant on the fourth. The salad bar and desserts were excellent, and we only later learned that some mains could be ordered as half portions, as many older locals do. One dinner service was slower than we’d have liked, apparently because they were short staffed, and the owners were visibly busy helping out. Still, our breakfasts and dinners were consistently well served overall. We also enjoyed the cake buffet on the terrace, where the service was good. The room was a real treat, probably the best in the house. It was spacious, with a wraparound balcony, windows on two sides, a large bathroom and separate toilet room. There were plenty of hangers, wall hooks, places for our rolling suitcases, and the usual amenities. The bed was comfortable, and we could hear cowbells in the distance. The hotel is about a 15 minute uphill walk from downtown, which meant peaceful green hills instead of crowds and souvenir shops. We called for the shuttle mentioned in our booking confirmation, and the van came down to the station so we didn’t have to carry our bags uphill. After that, we enjoyed the walk during our four days there. On arrival, we hiked right out the front door and found wildflowers, mountain views, picturesque chalets, and two independent dairy farms with self serve cheese kiosks, championship cow bells on display, and family photos. The family run hotel felt authentic and charming, with Swiss traditions rather than a bland chain hotel feel. Staff at the front desk were prompt and helpful with maps and advice. The hotel employs many young people from other countries during the summer high season, and we especially enjoyed talking with a young Polish woman who served our dinner. We even invited her to stay with us if she ever made it to California. A dear Swiss friend had recommended Kirchbühl, and the location, service, accommodations and personality all lived up to it.
