Hotel Chartreuse

We wanted a quiet place with a genuine Swiss feel, and Hotel Chartreuse suited us perfectly. Our five-day, four-night stay was lovely, and we’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for a distinctive stay just outside Thun in Hunibach. We took the free bus rides to and from Interlaken Ost for our trips to the Jungfrau region. The journeys were picturesque, and the hotel gave us a PanoramaCard Thunersee that made all bus trips free. There’s a bus stop a few hundred feet away. The hotel is also a block from the dock, which worked well for the boat ride we wanted to take into interlaken. At the hotel restaurant, we had a four-course Italian fine-dining meal. Come hungry, it was a treat. For a less expensive option, Buvette Am See, another spot owned by the hotel, is right by the boat dock. You can eat with a beautiful view of the Thunersee, and alcohol is sold there. It’s a hidden gem that adds to the appeal of the area.

Mr. Ates made us feel at home with his warm smile, kindness, and genuine hospitality. He patiently answered our questions and quickly took care of whatever we needed, which made our holiday much more enjoyable. The hotel restaurant was also memorable, with delicious food, excellent service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. It was a pleasure meeting such a friendly and professional staff member. The building, patio, and grounds were all neat and well cared for. Hotel Chartreuse, formerly known as the Italian Lifestyle Hotel, is just a short walk from the Lake Thun waterfront, and there’s a small grocery store across the street. Annemarie kindly let us check in early even though we arrived just after noon. Our room was quiet and clean, with lovely bedding and a down comforter on each side of the comfortable double bed. Dinner at Chartreuse was exquisite. Ates, the Hotel and Restaurant Coordinator, suggested a red blend from Tuscany that was the best wine we’ve ever had, which is saying something. He took us into the cool, dark cantina, stocked with Italian wines, to get the bottle. We had a delicious three-course dinner with crusty bread, fennel leaf salad, roast rack of lamb, sage butter ravioli filled with Italian sausage, and tiramisu. Elena and Lorena were delightful, engaging servers, and Ates kept our glasses filled with wine. Afterwards, he even offered us a glass of Passito Del Vecchio liquor for free. You could tell he loved making sure guests had an unforgettable experience. In the morning, Annemarie made sure we had everything we wanted at the fabulous buffet breakfast, even making eggs for us though it’s set up for self-service. We’ll definitely return to Hotel Chartreuse and Osteria da Pasquale on a future trip to Switzerland.
