Bernerhof Swiss Quality Hotel

The owners, both Claudia, Gerhard, and their staff provide enthusiastic five-star service, even though the place is graded only 3*. The dining menu and board are excellent, and I can’t recommend the hotel and restaurant highly enough. Alex deserves a special thank you for sorting out my bus back after my walk up to Gasterntal and Selden. I came to Kandersteg to walk to Oeschinensee, and Bernerhof is the closest hotel to the start of that walk from the main road. If your budget allows, half board is well worth booking: the four-course dinner and breakfast buffet, with regional food, will set you up for all kinds of activities. Guests can also use the complimentary mini spa facilities by booking ahead, and there are afternoon refreshments. Wunderbar! 🙂

The owners really made our two days in Kandersteg special. They remembered our dinner reservation and asked how our day had gone, which made us feel genuinely cared for. The staff were kind and attentive at meals and whenever we needed something, so the whole stay felt easy and welcoming. My girlfriend and I were there to explore the area and visit Lake Oeschinensee. The hotel was perfectly placed, just a seven-minute walk from the gondola. We’d recommend it to anyone visiting Kandersteg and will definitely be back.

We’d found somewhere else to stay that night, but came here for dinner with my partner and her dog last week. We were so glad we did. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere made the evening feel special. It’s a family-owned and managed place, and both owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our group was staying at the nearby International Scout Centre, and this hotel and restaurant didn’t disappoint. It’s set in the Swiss Alps, close to many ski resorts. The family hosting us was lovely, greeting everyone morning, noon, and night with the same warm smile and enthusiasm. They made the stay memorable.
