There are excellent hiking trails and nature walks nearby, with a photographer's dream view in every direction. This is an authentic, funky place in the Swiss Alps, close to heaven. The owners are on site, and the rooms and food are great value. When I return to the Alps, I'll go out of my way to stay here. Really worth the trip.

Several serious hiking routes start right at the hotel, which sits in the breathtaking Gasterntal, about a two-hour hike from Kandersteg. It's a lovely little mountain hotel with a restaurant, delicious food, and very friendly, quick service. You can also reach it by car or minibus on a very scenic, slightly scary one-way road.
