Waldhotel Doldenhorn

We spent two nights here in winter on half-board. The mountain views from the double room were lovely, and the staff, from reception to the restaurant, were very friendly and helpful. The spa has lots of interesting saunas, plus a small indoor jacuzzi and an outdoor one. The chill lounge is worth trying for its great views. Half-board is worth it, as it also lets you dine at the nearby sister hotel Ruedihus Gasthof, a historic place that’s worth a visit. There are great mountain views all around, and it’s a short, pleasant walk into Kandersteg.

A charming four-star hotel in Kanderstag, especially good if you’re into spas. There’s a 90C Finnish sauna, a 50C hay sauna, a 60C salt sauna, a hamam, and an 80C herb sauna, which was the best. The cold plunge was great too. There’s a pool with an outdoor jacuzzi, another jacuzzi indoors, and a quiet room. Half-board came with excellent food and a free small lunch. The shuttle from the train station was free and efficient. Breakfast had a great spread, including smoked salmon and prosecco.

I was only at Waldhotel Doldenhorn for one night on a business trip, but it really impressed me. Kandersteg is stunning, and the hotel captures its charm so well. It’s elegant and welcoming, with a peaceful feel and attentive service. The hotel met my expectations for a high-standard stay. Breakfast was the one thing that didn’t quite match the otherwise excellent quality. A little attention to it would make this place outstanding. I’m looking forward to coming back for a proper holiday.

The spa is great, and the late closing hours were especially appreciated. On our first stay we also loved the warm, welcoming atmosphere and staff, the beautiful authentic design, the cute afternoon tea, and the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had. We really enjoyed the visit. After our second stay, though, it seemed that some rooms still hadn’t had their bathrooms renovated. The spa floor was still very slippery. I checked other reviews and it seems I’m not the only one who’s mentioned that. I’ll add a note about the restaurant too. We were quite disappointed with dinner. The food was very salty, especially the truffle risotto, and the dishes tasted average. It was still a nice experience, and we might return for another holiday, but we’d definitely have to find somewhere else to eat.
