I never stayed at the hotel because trying to book a room turned into a horrible experience. I booked Hotel Bodensee-Arena on Booking.com for 2 adults and 1 child. The next day, Booking.com emailed to say that the hotel had told them I wanted to change the reservation to 1 adult and 1 child. I hadn't requested that. I contacted the hotel and sent my original booking email, which confirmed 2 adults and 1 child. They replied that if another adult was staying, I should change the booking to a double room for two adults plus one child. When I tried to add an adult, even though I felt the hotel should have fixed the problem, the price was twice the original booking. That immediately put me off. I don't know whether they were overbooked or had undercharged me at first, but I cancelled. My family and I had been looking forward to staying there because it seemed to have everything we wanted. In this case, it seemed too good to be true.

The room was basic but adequate, with a roof over my head, a shower, and a toilet. Parking was included, and the price-performance ratio is excellent, especially since it's so cheap in Switzerland. The breakfast staff were friendly. I needed some time to get used to communicating with reception.

The location is excellent, just 100 meters from the lake and a beach bar. Parking is free in front of the ice rink. Reception is entered through the ice rink, while the rooms are 200 meters away at the rear of the building complex. The rooms are sparsely furnished with very few amenities, and football training can be heard right outside the window. Breakfast just meets the minimum.

The staff are very friendly, and it's only a 5-minute walk to the harbor, train station, and town center. There's a lake view, too. The rooms are in a sports complex, which wasn't a problem for us. They're large and very clean, simply furnished with some modern touches. It's not the place for luxury, but we'll be back.

The walk along the lake in the morning was lovely, and the staff were really friendly. The rooms are simple, but everything was spotless.
