The food was very good, but the experience didn’t have the coordination, accountability, or professionalism I’d expect at this level. We’d sent our dietary restrictions in writing a week ahead, but the information hadn’t been shared internally. Relevant items arrived without warning, so we had to intervene ourselves. For a Michelin-rated degustation menu, no thoughtful alternatives were prepared. Courses were simply skipped, or we were told to pick from a separate menu. Service timing was uneven even though the restaurant was only partly occupied. We declined breaks between courses several times when asked, but still waited more than 10 minutes. Empty water glasses and used plates stayed on the table until the final course, and there was no dedicated sommelier during service. At the end, the chef came to ask for feedback. We mentioned that we appreciated the food, but also raised concerns about food safety and service. The response was defensive, not reassuring, and the discussion escalated at the table instead of being handled constructively. The chef eventually left abruptly, which speaks for itself.

We stopped in just for a drink. The view was lovely, there was a wide choice of drinks, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The wait was a little longer than usual, probably because they were hosting a wedding that day. A pleasant place to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant and Sonnenberg park for many years. It’s a lovely place to walk the dog and spend time with children. Today, though, I was taken aback by how one staff member behaved. She wouldn’t give me her full name and was arrogant, disrespectful, and very unprofessional. Jessica caused me a lot of stress and ruined my mood. I reported it to the restaurant manager, who was very nice and educated. I hope good people who care about the reputation of this place will work here, and that someone more worthy can replace her.

During our hike, we couldn’t resist the mountain views, so we stopped for a cappuccino and sat outside in the sunshine. Learning that the hotel has a history of more than 200 years made it feel like a special spot.

The views of Lucerne from Hotel-Restaurant Sonnenberg Kriens are breathtaking, and free parking was a nice convenience. The hotel was fully booked for dinner when we arrived, so I’d recommend reserving ahead if you plan to eat there. Luckily, there were other dining options within walking distance. Our double room was clean, comfortable, and luxurious, with a large bathroom, a walk-in shower, and a jacuzzi tub that felt like a special touch. I can’t say enough good things about the hotel, and I’d happily stay again.
