Hotel du Raisin

I left Le Raisin still hungry after a pretty frustrating meal. My beef tartare came covered in coarsely grated cheese, even though I told them I don't eat cheese. The waitress said she'd check with the cook about replacing it, then never returned. I was left with cold fries, a tiny salad and a few pieces of toast. Another waiter offered coffee as the only thing he could do, but I turned it down because I was hungry. They charged me full price, and as I left I heard staff loudly saying, "We cannot offer him a free beef tartare." I went to Manor for takeaway Chinese chicken instead. At least I wasn't hungry anymore. I'm not going back.

We left after one night feeling exhausted and annoyed. Our room was the Attic Suite, reached by a seemingly endless set of stairs. On a hot August day it was like a furnace, with barely any ventilation beyond two skylights at either end of the bedroom and kitchen area. There was no hot water at all. We told the proprietors at check-in, but nothing was done. Colleagues in another room had only freezing water too, and the duty staff didn't know about the problem when told the next morning. On top of that, our room faced the town hall clock bell, which rang every half hour and for longer on the hour. We couldn't face another ice-cold shower in the morning. I don't usually post reviews or criticize places, but they need to pay more attention to guests instead of running ragged on the restaurant side, which we thankfully didn't try. Avoid.

The food we ordered was salty, and the blonde waitress made the meal worse with poor service and a rude attitude. We were told water costs extra whether it's tap or still. When we asked about that charge, she responded badly, and she also brought too few small plates when we requested them.

The meal was tasty, but it wasn't what I had ordered. I asked for bruschetta with guacamole, but the waiter asked me something in French that I couldn't understand. What arrived was what I'd call avocado toast with shrimp. My French was the problem there, but I still got a different dish. There was also an odd payment issue: my bill was Fr 9.60, and when I went to pay, the waitress said the minimum for a credit card was $20. She charged $20 and gave me Fr 10.00.
