We liked how calm the area around the hostel was, away from the busy station and larger hotels. It’s still only about a 15-20 minute walk from the station, or you can catch the bus from the stop right beside the hostel to get around quickly. The bar was fun even in the mid-February off-season, and the bartender was especially friendly. A big bonus was the adorable dog. We’d happily come back. The staff were lovely and helped in all sorts of ways, including washing, drying, and folding laundry for the guests affected by the bed bug incident. They also shared plenty of advice on activities, places to go, and the weather, always with a smile. Our mixed dorm was clean and laid out nicely, with separate beds rather than bunks, and we made some friends there. One guest did find a bed bug, though, so keep that in mind. Staff said they spray the beds, so it may have been an isolated problem. The shared bathrooms were clean and pleasant, with lots of stalls. Bring coins if you want warm water.

I traveled from Basel to Lauterbrunnen only to be told at arrival that I should find somewhere else. My booking was cancelled without an explanation, even though I’d used the same card for a hotel in Basel and for everything else. They said the card didn’t work, but I was charged. I asked whether they had another room available, and the receptionist just said it wasn’t possible because it was last minute, without checking. It felt like they overbook and cancel people who paid less. They wouldn’t listen to anything I tried to explain. Be careful, this was not a good experience.

The four-bed dorms were nice, and the hostel has a welcoming feel in the evenings. It’s right by the bus stop, which makes getting around easy, in a really beautiful town. The staff were fantastic across reception, the bar, and housekeeping. Definitely recommend.

The view just outside the window was amazing, and everyone was kind and helpful. I had a pretty good stay during the quieter season. Pick up food at Coop when you arrive and keep snacks with you. The shower takes a little while to heat up after you put coins in the machine.

The location is amazing, and it’s a good place to meet people around your age and have fun. There are private rooms too. They’re basic but clean, with shared bathrooms if that works for you.
