Hotel Berghaus

They serve gluten free food, and breakfast and dinner featured hyper-local ingredients like butter from the nearby alpine farmer, home made jam, and bread from the town bakery. My wife and I wanted a clean, comfortable place with good food, and this small family-run Berghaus hotel suited us well. It’s efficient and very clean and well-maintained, though it isn’t a luxury hotel and the standard rooms are Swiss-sized, not American sized. The host was super helpful about what to see and what to avoid, and had a good sense of humor. We’d definitely come back.

The lady who runs the hotel gave us lots of useful advice, including a tip to avoid Grindelwald. We had to pass through it anyway, and it reminded us of Gatlinburg with fondue. Her help made our trip more rewarding, and she was friendly and helpful. We stayed here in September of 2023 and thought the place was wonderful: very clean, quiet, and old-fashioned, so it didn’t feel like staying in America at a Holiday Inn. It’s uphill from the train station, about a quarter of a mile, so you need to be fine with a beautiful, exhilarating walk. Wengen seems quiet in general, and from our large windows we could see the peaks across the valley and a peaceful pasture. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, so can’t comment on it. Breakfast was fine. It’s hard to impress an American with breakfast. We rule breakfast. It’s literally amazing how much better we are at breakfast than everyone else. We’d definitely stay here again.

The people were wonderful, and the place has such a cozy, home-like feel. Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip to Switzerland. Thanks again!
