Valley Hostel

The mountains right outside the room were stunning, impossible to beat. The hostel felt like staying in a cabin, with a great kitchen, a comfy feel, and kind people all around. Lockers in the room would have been useful, but it felt safe enough to leave our things out. There isn’t much to do in Lauterburnen at night, and our daytime weather was poor, very cloudy. Still, the stay was relaxing and nice.

It’s good value, close to the station, and has a great waterfall view. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were excellent, and laundry washing and drying cost 5 francs each. Skip breakfast at 8 CHF, it isn’t worth it. You’re better off cooking or buying something at the nearby COOP.

The balcony had a wonderful view, and the place was clean, comfortable, and convenient for a short stay. We booked a room for two with bunk beds and liked it. There’s also a shared kitchen, dining area, drying room, and laundry room.

I stayed one night with my teenage daughter in May 2025, and the setting was beautiful. The waterfall is a quick walk away, with restaurants and shops right outside the door. Since we had a car, the plentiful free parking was a real plus. The room was small, but the price for that location is hard to beat. This was my first hostel stay, in my 40s, and I saw several guests in their 30s or older, so it’s definitely for all ages. I’d been unsure about sharing a bathroom, but it was fine, and the bathrooms and showers were very clean. I also liked having our own basket in the kitchen fridge. I’d stay here again if I return.
