We were very happy with our stay. The staff were so kind, and even in mid-October the pool temperature was good. The breakfast is small, but the fresh daily bread and croissants from a local bakery and the great local cheese were a real highlight. You can order bread at reception too, for example when heading out for the day. It’s a great spot for a family. The spacious superior room is well priced and comes with a small kitchen and fridge alongside the usual equipment. We thought it was great value.

Aparthotel Al Lago is a lovely base for exploring Locarno on foot. Parks, the cable car, LIDO with its gym, pools, and lakeside beach, Termal Salty SPA, and the old town are within a five-minute walk. The train and boat stations are also just a few minutes away. Lovely clay tennis courts are across the street. Guests can use bicycles and ping-pong rackets for free, and there’s a little garden with a pool. Underground parking is available, and the hotel offers a Ticino ticket for free public transport, including some boat trips, plus discounts at major attractions. The hotel is comfortable and nice-looking, right on the Lago Maggiore waterfront in Locarno. The rooms are all different: some are refurbished and air-conditioned, others aren’t. We had adjacent rooms 11-1 and 11-2, both beautifully refurbished, with air conditioning and nicely equipped terraces. The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, and the cleaning was decent. Breakfast was a good-quality buffet, maybe not a huge selection, but everything was fresh and tasty. Locarno is well worth visiting.

I had a wonderful three-week holiday in September. The staff gave me a lovely welcome and the service was great. It’s an easy walk into town, with Migro three blocks away for self-catering in the family rooms. The area is lovely, too. You can take the funicular to Madonna del sasso and the cable car to Cardada, or go by boat to nearby villages and down to Stresa in Italy.

It’s the cheapest option in Locarno, right by the lake and very convenient for all the facilities. The staff are welcoming and breakfast is great. The place looks much as it did in the early 80s, but it’s very clean and fully maintained. The kitchen is equipped. Good choice.
