The grounds were immaculate, with beautiful views and lots of room to wander, and the apartment we stayed in was modern, clean, and lovely. We were at the Parkhotel in July with my husband and our 9 year old daughter, and had a wonderful time. The photos don't capture how much better the hotel looks in person. All the room options are close to the main lobby and pool. Breakfast was great, and the pool was lovely, though in summer we had to get there early to find chairs before they were taken. The front desk staff were friendly, but had limited suggestions for good restaurants in town. My main complaint was the restaurant and bar staff, who often seemed stressed and rude. Maybe it was because we were American, even though we used our limited German, but the service wasn't as friendly as I'd expect at a hotel of this caliber. On peak days the pool and snack bar seemed overwhelmed, seating was limited, and service was hard to get, so perhaps it was a staffing issue. Still, everything else was so lovely we'd definitely stay again. The property is worth it.

The park and gym are good, but I can't say much good about the rest. Most of the women at reception were surprisingly unhelpful, and some were arrogant. If you have breathing problems or allergies, don't risk it: there are very strong-smelling fragrance diffusers everywhere in the hotel, gym, and sauna.

We had a lovely stay, even with the November autumn weather. The garden is beautiful, the rooms are a good size with comfortable beds, and breakfast has plenty of choice. The location isn't in central Ascona, but it's still a manageable distance. The jacuzzi felt a little small, though luckily not many guests were using it. We only found two towels in the room, and one was dirty, so I'd have liked more. Otherwise, there wasn't much to improve, and it was great value for the money.

The service really went above and beyond and made our whole stay feel special. Special thanks to our waiter Simone and the others. We had the best time in this magical place. It's a hotel that's friendly to kids and dogs, and I'd highly recommend it.
