The hotel is very well placed in Lucern city, and we found lots to explore on foot: buildings with sculpture paintings, the Chapel Bridge, Ass cafe, Jesuitenkirche Luzern, Kornmarkt Kapellplatz with its colourful fountain, Sternenplatz and its colourful painted building, and Chaschuechli cheese store for cheese pie. This is a self-check-in hotel also managed by Hotel De La Paix, just 20 steps around the corner. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived at 2 pm, so we left our luggage with the Hotel de la Paix concierge, who were friendly and helpful. It’s a recommended, good-value place to stay.

The one good thing was the location near the chapel bridge. Even so, my room faced the main road and it was far too noisy to open the windows even a little. I paid more than USD200 a night and found neglected furnishings badly in need of repair. The table edges were old, scuffed and stained. The bathroom door looked like something from an abandoned house in a horror movie. The mirror was awful too. My grandmother’s 80-year-old house has a better one, and this was the smallest hotel bathroom mirror I’ve ever seen, about 8 x 4 inches. Just cons, cons and more cons. What a major disappointment.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a self-check-in hotel, but it all worked out fine. The location is perfect, just around the corner from the Old Town. Breakfast was great, and having a microwave and coffee facilities available after hours was ideal.

The self-check-in was very quick, and the breakfast selection was pretty good. It’s in a really central spot. I highly recommend this place!

Though the rooms were small, they were comfortable, and the hotel stayed very quiet even when it was full. Breakfast was great, and they even had a Mimosa Bar. The location was really convenient for our stay in Lucerne.
