Youth Hostel Luzern

I booked two nights, but I'm leaving after one. Children ran through the halls and stairways until after 10 pm, broke a glass door, and staff didn't seem to care or tell them off. I've never shared with so many inconsiderate travellers either. People left the door open and lights on, and talked past quiet hours. The bunk beds are terrible. The ladder feels unsafe and hurts to use, and I'm covered in bruises. For what you pay, you also have to make and strip your own bed. A male cleaner came into the women's shower room without knocking, which felt incredibly unprofessional and predatory. Find somewhere else if you can. Spend more for a comfortable, quiet place. This place is so bad it's almost funny.

Loved this place. The girls' dorm was clean and thoughtfully laid out, breakfast was great, and the staff were nice. I didn't run into any disrespectful behavior. One of the best hostels I've stayed at.

The free public transport pass from the hostel was a real highlight, and getting around was easy. The beds were comfortable, the downstairs lounge was clean, and the rooms felt clean enough. Our room's charging points didn't work, so we had to charge our phones downstairs in the evenings. The lounge stations are really slow, and lots of other guests seemed to have the same issue with their room chargers. The kitchen setup is very limited: just one kettle and microwave for the whole hostel, with no fridge, plates, or cutlery. Staff were polite but did the bare minimum, and they were all very young. On our last night, young children screamed, ran around, and played table football in the lounge until nearly 11 pm without supervision. Their parents were drinking outside. The adults in the lounge were irritated, but staff didn't step in. On my first night, a staff member also stayed up with some other young men until around 11, and they were very loud.

If being able to sleep matters to you, don't stay here. Kids around 7 to 15 were running around, shouting, and slamming doors like it was summer camp. Staff were rarely at reception and did nothing about it. At 120 euros a night, I'd expect hostel accommodation, not a playground. I still can't believe 10 or more children can be left running around among adults from all over the world without a parent or guardian. It's a shame, because the beds were comfortable, breakfast was included, though very limited, and there was a free bus ticket. Without the children, I would have given it three stars.
