Hotel Murten

Everyone was very kind and helpful, and the service was impeccable. The restaurant space is nice, breakfast was fine, and the coffee so-so. The location is great, a couple of minutes from the lake and the old town, restaurants, and cafes, and about 15 minutes on foot from the train station. It could be a fantastic hotel, but for over 200 CHF per room per night, I don't think these issues are acceptable. The room was clean, nicely decorated, and had excellent heating in winter, though it felt a bit shabby for the price. Soundproofing was very poor, you could hear people sneeze. There were no bathroom doors, so there was no privacy, though luckily the toilet had a door. Its ventilation was very loud and could be heard upstairs at any time of day. The sink was in the hallway, the first thing you saw when entering the room. The toilet door handle was broken, but I'm grateful they fixed it when I pointed it out. As of 02.2024, construction was happening next door, and they only notified you after booking. I appreciated that they put us on the opposite side from the work, since it starts at 7 a.m.

Since the bar's restoration, the decor has improved but the service has gone downhill. The homemade iced tea now comes in just a glass instead of a bottle. The cappuccino was only milk, with no coffee, and they no longer serve cookies with coffee. Before the renovation, the service was five-star.

I liked this cute little hotel in Murten on my first visit. The bar is amazing and quite modern. The rooms are nice but tiny, maybe half rooms, and the hotel is conveniently close to the city centre.

The Wi-Fi was pretty good, and the location is a manageable walk from the old city and the coast. Rooms were fine, though the bathrooms could use an upgrade. Breakfast was strictly European. There's parking on site if you arrive before it's full; otherwise public parking is just up the street.
