The access road to this heavenly-looking house is perhaps a little narrow. 4.9 stars. When the evening sun in Vaud turns the vineyard slopes crimson, even the most skeptical person feels transported to an Arcadian idyll. Gais Alpins rises gracefully among golden groves, high above Montreux, the jewel of the Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut, with 2,000-metre peaks beside it. It’s the earthly Elysium, a fountain of joy, a haven of bliss and peaceful refuge, its splendour and glory unmatched. Charming enough to captivate an adventurous bon vivant or a gourmand tired of bland everyday food, this place can even leave the most discerning globetrotter speechless, bold and proud as the Crac de Chevalier.

Cooking at the kitchen island with that beautiful view is a special experience. The kitchen at "Gais Alpins" is very well equipped, so making good meals is a joy. Afterwards, it’s lovely to eat at the terrace table overlooking the lake and Savoy Alps, then relax in the lounge chairs. A truly inspiring place.

The "Gorges du Chauderon" hike is phenomenal, like stepping into another world. "Gais Alpins" sits in a beautiful spot, with the blue lake below and mountain peaks still snow-capped even in June. It’s also a great base for long mountain hikes. In the evening, the Glion-Terriet funicular takes you straight down to the lake for a swim. Hiking and swimming here are such a pleasure.

There’s a natural ice rink up in Caux, at the forest’s edge, with a little restaurant, and everything feels very authentic. It’s a lovely surprise in the Montreux area, having a beautiful ski holiday in a place known for its summery feel, with magical sunsets. In winter, the area around the "Gais Alpins" house is really special. The MGN cog railway goes directly to the unusual Jaman and Rocher de Naye ski area. From La Perche you can ski down the "Piste du Diable" to Caux. It’s steep and untracked, with breathtaking lake views.

For sports lovers, this area is a paradise. You can rent sailing boats and rowing boats, and a swim after tennis makes the day even better. The Montreux Tennis Club in Territet/Montreux has superb courts right by the lake and can be reached from Glion by funicular. Glion itself has two courts: one in the park at the Hotel Victoria, next to a pool, and another in the village centre, surrounded by trees that give pleasant shade. The MGN cog railway also takes you to bike trails with long descents to Montreux.
