I was in town for the Ascona Half Marathon last weekend, and the room I got was a letdown. Booking.com listed it as having a lake view, but it didn’t, and it was immediately obvious that the room didn’t match the online description or photos. Reception couldn’t help until the manager was available the next day. The manager was even less helpful and showed no interest in finding a fair solution. I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I’m sharing this so other travelers know what happened. Check your booking details carefully or consider a hotel with better transparency and customer service.

For a three-star hotel, this is a place many four-star hotels could learn from. The rooms are cozy and very clean, the beds comfortable, and the balconies have tables and chairs. Bathrooms have been renovated with brand-new fixtures, and breakfast is generous, varied, and tasty. The staff are welcoming and friendly. They even have olive oil and vinegar for the little breakfast salad.

I really liked my small twin room, especially the lake view. Breakfast was excellent, and guests can use the espresso machine on the second floor at any time. There’s also a vending machine and a back exit right behind the train station. The staff were warm and friendly.

A handy base for a few days away, with the city center and plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are new, the service is nice, and the location is perfect.

You can use the hotel’s bikes for free, which is a nice extra since everything is only a few kilometers away. The location is very nice, but the hotel needs a major refresh. The bathrooms aren’t up to standard: I could hear everyone showering and flushing toilets. I work in real estate promotions, and this really needs fixing. Breakfast is good, though there should be more meat choices for people who don’t eat pork. The view can be lovely if you get a room above the fourth floor. The price is all about the location, nothing else.
